Female Brazilian nationals arrested following shooting incident with police 

Members of the Guyana Police Force at ‘F’ Division Tabatinga, Lethem came under fire Tuesday night while attempting to search a building following a robbery in the area.

Three Brazilian men, one armed with a handgun were initially apprehended following the said robbery on Dwayne’s Cell Phone and Jewellery Shop.

Ranks were following up leads in that incident when they came under fire as they entered the building.

No one was injured as the lawmen used their tactical training and arrested four persons inclusive of two females who are Brazilian nationals.

A .38 revolver, a 9mm magazine and forty-two live rounds of ammunition were found in the house.

In an unrelated report, Police ranks acting on information last evening stopped and searched a vehicle in the vicinity of Takatu Bridge, Lethem. A parcel containing 103 grams of compressed cannabis, was found hidden in the left side door compartment of the vehicle.

The driver a 51yrold male and a 31-year-old mechanic, both Brazilians are in custody and will appear in court soon.

A maintenance worker of a mining company was arrested Wednesday morning, at the Bartica Stelling.
A 9mm pistol with six live rounds which is the property of the mining company was found in his possession and he was not authorized to carry same.
Police have also detained another staff member who is authorized to use the company’s firearm. He reportedly told investigators that he had given the weapon to his co-worker, a resident of Coconut Walk, Albouystown, to keep for a short while.
