Five men charged for allegedly raping underage girls
Five men have been charged and placed before the court for allegedly raping two underage girls in the Essequibo River, on separate occasions, according to police.
The men, Romario Smartt, Tyan Boodhoo, Dale Edwards and Candacy Degrees are accused of raping the girls, between January, 01 and 31, 2017.
The appeared at the Bartica Magistrates’ Court and were placed on $150,000 bail each.
Meanwhile, Shawn Peters another accused was placed on $200,000 bail when he appeared in the same court, subsequently.
The teens who are 13 and 14-years-old had complained that five men gang raped them while they were on their way home from school on separate occasions.
Earlier in the year, it was being reported that a group of men were tormenting young girls in Essequibo region.
