ASP Grant charged with causing death by dangerous driving of elderly woman
Assistant Superintendent, Jermaine Grant was today charged with causing death by dangerous driving, months after he allegedly struck down 65-year-old Anmanie Deonarine, along the Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara public road.
The 28-year-old of Fort Street, Kingston, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He was placed on $300,000 bail and was instructed to lodge his passport with the court.
The elderly mother of three was pushing a bicycle east along the public road, when a car, PRR 4446, driven by Grant, veered off the road and struck her.
She was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. Following that accident Grant was relieved of his duties.
Police conducted a breathalyzer test and no trace of blood alcohol was recorded, according to the force.
The case was adjourned to December 16, 2016.
