PNC/R calls for PPP Parliamentarian to be sanctioned over insulting Facebook rants
The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) today added its voice to condemn the recent Facebook rants by People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Member of Parliament, Nigel Dharamlall.
The PNC/R in a media statement on Friday, November 18 stated that “this highly unusual, unprofessional and unbecoming behavior by a sitting member of the National Assembly…must be condemned by all members of the legislative branch of government regardless of political affiliation.”
The Party went on to say that this is not the first time Dharamlall has engaged in, “unsavory behavior unbecoming as a member of the National Assembly.”
“The conduct of all Members of the National Assembly must be above reproach and they are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful manner at all times,” the Party also stated.
Dharamlall’s behaviour it concluded, has embarrassed the PPP and the entire National Assembly and should be sanctioned.
His Facebook post stated, ““even though I didn’t support your party you have still been LUCKY to be installed as President of Guyana by GECOM. Since then though, your Brainlessness has been in Overdrive. Everything that comes out of your Mouth makes you sound foolish. I’m worried that people are thinking that you are a Dud…You are our President… get rid of Ramjattan…get rid of the criminals…get rid of the thieves…in and out of Government…”
Daramlall after he was bashed online, edited his post and apologized to the President. His post read “Dear President #Granger I’m sure you are a thick-skinned leader…as all politicians ought to be…however, some of your supporters feel that I have been too harsh in my criticisms of you…Let us bury the hatchet…you lead the country without racial and political discrimination; without fear of the criminals; without dubious and partisan policies; without corruption; without disrespect to the Amerindians, vulnerable, elderly, youth and disadvantaged AND I shall steer clear of you…To you and your supporters #MyApology for the unwarranted things I earlier posted that may have caused you harm… ONE LOVE!!!”
Opposition Leader, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo earlier this week when questioned about his comrade’s post, distanced himself from Daramlall’s comments and described it as, “unacceptable and reprehensible.”
