“Moon ah run till day ketch am” – Benschop reacts to McCoy’s charges
Ex-Presidential Information Liaison, Kwame McCoy was moments ago charged with damage to property, assault, and simple larceny.
These charges come almost five years after the alleged assault of political activist Mark Benschop.
During his appearance at the Providence Magistrates’ Court, McCoy pleaded not guilty to all the charges before Magistrate Leron Daley.
Benschop claimed that he was assaulted and his vehicle vandalized by McCoy and his associates.
He had identified McCoy and Jason Abdulla as two of the individuals who assaulted him and smashed his vehicle.
Abdulla was most recently charged for the assault of columnist Freddie Kissoon.
He was represented by attorney-at-law Euclin Gomes.
The matter has been adjourned to May 18. He was placed on $275,000 bail.
McCoy is claiming he is being politically persecuted noting,”after months of intolerable harassment at the hands of the Guyana Police Force, I am convinced that there is a political agenda to use the criminal justice system to witch hunt me.”
However; Benschop feels vindicated. The political activist said the police are finally doing their job and not politically intimidated. He said, “moon ah run till day ketch am.”
