President called emergency security meeting
President David Granger called in his Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan and Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud this afternoon (April, 14) to an emergency meeting. The meeting followed a report that 13 prison wardens did not turn up for duty. Their absence may have been based on information that weapons had been thrown over the Camp Street prison fence. The normal complement of wardens is 15.
It is unclear whether the police reacted to the alleged internal infraction in a timely manner.
Director of Prison Carl Graham said he had no information that guns were thrown over the prison fence. He however confirmed several officers reported sick. The Director of Prison said he did not attend any meeting with President Granger, but had a meeting with the Public Security Minister.
