GRA Chairman secures major Foreign Trade appointment
Ambassador, Lucas says his immediate focus is to eliminate Guyana’s perceived corruption outlook internationally, since this has adversely affected investors’ confidence.
“A lot of work will have to be done at the domestic level to show the international community that we are serious about fighting issues of corruption we also have to ensure that the rest of the world gets the right information about Guyana, so we will be working through our missions to get the message across,” he told Capitol news, exclusively.
Another focus is simplifying and improving the manner in which business is being done. “This is to ensure that our business community has a better chance of competing successfully in the global economy.”
Guyana is also working on having a better presence internationally, “we have a number of issues of importance before the international community, in addition to the matters of free trade and the free flow of capital and investment across borders, we also have some very important security matters that relate to economic development and here I am talking about the anti-money laundering and countering the terrorism act.”
This is high on the agenda to ensure the business community is not adversely affected by potential action that could be taken against countries that are delinquent.
