Guyanese NY Attorney and Civic Leader Albert Baldeo sentenced to 18 months in prison
Erstwhile Magistrate in Guyana and Queens NY attorney Albert Baldeo was on Monday (February 2, 2015) sentenced to 18 months in prison for obstructing an investigation into his use of straw donors during a failed 2010 NY political campaign.
The Federal Judge ordered Baldeo to serve two years supervised release and slapped a $15,000 USD fine on him. Baldeo is considered a flight risk so he has additional conditions attached to his probation that will prevent him from fleeing the jurisdiction.
Just over one week ago Baldeo checked into a hospital claiming that he was unwell. He was treated for hypertension and other ailments but was discharged from the hospital yesterday. The Prosecution in a strongly worded document to the court indicated that Baldeo was malingering and that the sentencing must proceed.
