The order to deny citizens of Georgetown access to the City Hall yesterday is disturbing according to Mayor Hamilton Green. Members of the special constabulary under the guidance and instruction of the embattled Acting Town Clerk Carol Sooba shut out several citizens who turned up, some to pay bills and others for a prayer session and discussion on the need for Local Government Elections.
Mayor Green speaking at City Hall this morning said they will continue to call for local Government elections as he said they will not be tempted into any acts of violence or inappropriate behavior.
Mayor Green has since written to the Chief Constable Andrew Foo seeking an explanation for the decision.
Local Government Elections were last held in Guyana 20 years ago and this delay has residents enduring poor services as a result of elected bodies falling apart.
