Speaking at his party press briefing today Rohee said that this latest incident was most unfortunate.
Police investigators are taking statements from inmates as they tried to get to the bottom of the murder.
The inmate Theon Smith who was serving a 15 year sentence for robbery under arms, possession of an illegal firearm and break and entry was stabbed by another inmate reportedly over the disappearance of a cellular phone.
Now this latest incident comes mere months after another brawl in the New Amsterdam Prison where several inmates were injured when a gang went berserk.
A commission of inquiry was launched into that incident but while the findings are yet to be made public the minister said that several recommendations were made.
He said departmentally changes were made as well.
He said the standing orders of the prisons service was also completed and that document is now with the legal affairs minister for review.
In the Mazaruni Prisons matter the man at the center of the murder was also serving a 15 year prison sentence.
