GECOM Justifies 2014 Preliminary List of Electors
Both men today maintained that the integrity the process of adding and subtracting names from the Official List of Electors has remained high
There have been concerns raised by the ruling PPP/C government that more than 2000 dead people were still on the list. The party’s general Secretary Clement Rohee noted that former President Arthur Chung was still on the list.
However, Dr. Surjubally dismissed those allegations and insisted that the commission has adopted a methodology to deal with extracting names from the list.
He said too that the methodology is best practice used by other CARICOM states.
Despite the concerns the Commission’s CEO said that GECOM is working towards improving the steps used to delete people.
The commission also addressed concerns that the current size of the preliminary list of electors is now over 550,000 electors…. which has seen new registrants amounting to almost 80,000.
GECOM maintains that in keeping with its mandate it will strive to have a pure National Register of Registrants, which can withstand any kind of scrutiny relating it its accuracy and integrity.
