Bandits rob G/town Post Office of pension money
Reports are that two men exited a white car and made their way into the post office where pensioners had lined up to collect their monthly pension. The men reportedly hit the security guard to his head, took the cash and escaped in the waiting car.
Persons in the area said they were only alerted to the robbery when pensioners rushed out the building screaming that gunmen had robbed the post office.
When Capitol News arrived on the scene, Police along with the post office internal security were conducting their investigations.
We contacted Sentinel Security Services where the guard is employed and were told by Chris Thompson Director of Operations that the guard was taken to the hospital where he received eleven stiches.
He also said they were waiting on the police to take a statement from the guard. Thompson could not say home much money was stolen, but before the day is out, he is expected to meet with the officials of the Guyana Post Office Corporation.
Meanwhile, Postmaster General Henry Dundus earlier today said he was not willing to give an interview as he was about to enter meeting to discuss the robbery. He however said his staff were traumatized and that the corporation will be looking to put temporary staff at the location when business resumes.
