New surveillance system project being implemented
The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has launched its Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) system. It has been described as next generation surveillance technology incorporating both air and ground aspects that provide a more accurate picture of the aircraft’s three-dimensional position.
Zulfikar Mohamed, chairman of the Aviation Authority, said that the project was in the making since 2008 as the sector was working towards further enhancing its capabilities.
Minister with responsibility for Transportation, commended the project, saying it represents a more advanced means of air surveillance and air safety.
In surveillance broadcast, aircraft avionics determines the aircraft’s position via satellite navigation and periodically broadcasts it, enabling it to be tracked.
