Man charged in murder of businessman Ashook Raghu
He is accused of gunning down businessman Ashook Raghu on Monday on Vlissengen Road before escaping with some $4 million. The man and his wife Shyrazadi were in a car at the traffic light when they were attacked by two men on a motorcycle. Police Commissioner Seelal Persaud today said surveillance video helped track down McDougall.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the Court that on the day in question deceased and his wife were parked waiting on the traffic light to signal go when the defendant and another rode up with a Honda CG motorcycle and shot the deceased to his chest. The accused is said to have been identified by Raghu’s wife, who was also shot in the incident. McDougall was remanded to prison and will return to Court on October 6 before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
