Search continues for missing fishermen
The search is into its seventh day for missing crewmembers reportedly attacked by pirates in the Corentyne River close to the Suriname side of the river. The story is getting fishy at this point after the vessel turned up in De Hoop Foreshore earlier this week minus the men. While the captain escaped the brutal assault police here in Guyana was able to get an account of what transpired through the owner of the vessel.
Today crime chief Leslie James told this newscast that the vessel is in police custody at the police marine section at Ruimveldt.
The missing men were reportedly badly beaten, chopped and thrown overboard. Those missing are Chandrapaul Jallim, Andrew, Dinesh aka monkey brains, Raymond Gomes.
The captain reportedly escaped and managed to swim ashore and he is in neighbouring Suriname assisting the police there with their investigations.
As the days goes by hope for the safe return of the men is fading but family members are keeping their hopes up that the men will return home alive.
