The Guyana Government has run into strong criticism and condemnation after a diplomatic brouhaha at the American Independence Reception last night. Minister Priya Manickchand was the chosen one to launch what can only be described as an abusive tirade against the outgoing US Ambassador on Wednesday evening.
Those in attendance at the United States Independence Day reception made their outrage known at the Acting Foreign Affairs Minister’s statement. Her tone and message in delivering the prepared speech resulted in the heckling and booing, Manickchand appeared not to care what the response was and continued her verbal assault on the US Ambassador at the man’s residence.
Parts of her speech were drowned out by the din that erupted as Manickchand criticized the representative of President Obama and the American People over remarks that the Guyana government ought to hold local government elections.
Ambassador Brent Hardt during his outgoing speech says it is time Guyana reestablish its local government systems.
The Ambassador hinted to the fact that the Government’s failure to host local government elections remains a breach of the country’s constitution.
The US Ambassador did not allow Education Minister Manickchand’s strong words that he has crossed the line when it comes to Guyana to go unanswered.
After cutting a cake in recognition of the United States 238th Independence Anniversary Manickchand and Presidential Advisor Gail Teixeira went straight for the exit of the Ambassador’s residence.
