Rohee bemoans Police handling of domestic violence

Screen Shot 2014-07-02 at 6.40.47 PMOver the past five years figures have showed over 4800 reported cases of domestic violence annually; that’s according to the minister of home affairs Clement Rohee.

Women rights groups have been calling for more to be done to protect vulnerable women out there.

Over the past few years a number of women have been killed by their partners. The NGOs have been calling on women to speak out and for the police to treat with the issue more seriously.

To this end Rohee said that he was not satisfied with the police’s efforts and he believes that more could be done at police stations to treat with reports of domestic violence.

Rohee said his ministry has spent over 296 million dollars to remodel some 18 police stations under the citizens security programme. The minister said that there is a special room for victims of domestic violence.
