Citizens raise concerns with Police Complaints Authority

Screen Shot 2014-07-01 at 7.03.49 PMThe use of excess force by some members of the Guyana Police Force continues to be a sore issue for the Police Complaints Authority.

To this end chairman Justice Cecil Kennard said he is using his community outreach programmes to highlight the need for proper policing and the respect for person’s human rights.

He said the recent cases of torture highlighted in the press are not doing any good for the image of the Force. Another issue of concern to citizens, according to Kennard, is the use of firearms by the police in the conduct of their duties.

Over the coming weeks the Police Complaints Authority will be visiting Moruca and Linden as it continues  to make the public aware of its mandate.
