Two foreign nationals robbed and injured while Bird watching
A lone gunman held up the two along with tour operator Andy Narine at gunpoint this morning.
The woman was identified as Anna Woodhouse; she sustained serious head injuries and up to news time she was still hospitalized receiving medical attention, while Danny Byrne was treated and sent away.
The incident reportedly occurred in the bird sanctuary section of the Gardens.
Sources told this newscast that the bandits took away, a cell phone, cash, both local and foreign currencies, passports and other important documents.
Tour operater Andy Narine of the Guyana Tropical bird society was with the two persons conducting a bird watching exercise he was also attacked but his injuries were said to be minor.
When we arrived at the hospital the police were there taking statements from Danny and Narine. The man was later taken to the Brickdam Police Station as the police continued further investigations into the robbery.
This newscast understands that the British High Commission was informed and is actively involved in the matter.
Hospital sources told this newscast that the two were here for the New Zealand West Indies cricket match which was later moved to Barbados. A source told this newscast that the two foreign nationals were expected to leave Guyana tomorrow.
