Trucks removed to new parking area to ease traffic congestion
The police say the move was aimed at easing the traffic congestion along Lombard street hence a decision was taken to remove those sand trucks and canters that would normally ply their trade along that route.
The trucks will now be relocated to Mandela avenue just outside of the Torginal building.
Public works minister Robeson Benn met with the operators last Saturday and promised to put systems in place to make them comfortable.
Commander of A division Clifton Hicken urged the truck drivers to formed a tracking association and report their grievances to the police.
Superintendent Brutus said that the decision was carefully thought over and he is of the belief that it will help the smooth flow of traffic, but will also help the force’s crime fight in those areas.
Effective from today trucks are not allowed to park on Lombard Street and around the parliament buildings area.
