PPP wants Parliament body to oversee security sector
With heavy criticism being heaped upon the government over its handling of the security sector, ruling People’s Progressive Party believes a Parliamentary Oversight Committee would help to address any concerns.
General Secretary of the PPP, Mr Clement Rohee said that while his party wants to see the Committee set up, the main opposition APNU is reluctant.
Mr Rohee said the Parliamentary Oversight Committee would provide the best mechanism for the resolution of security related issues. The PPP believes that the Opposition’s reluctance to have this oversight body in place is because the committee must be headed by the government Minister.
