Teacher’s Union pursues justice in teacher assault case

Screen Shot 2014-06-19 at 7.10.26 PMGeneral secretary of the Guyana Teachers Union Coretta Mc Donald is calling for the immediate removal of the security guard from the St Agnes primary school who assaulted a female teacher.

Mc Donald was speaking to this newscast this afternoon. She said the union would not continue to accept the assault of teachers by students, parents and now a security guard who was placed at the school to offer some protection for teachers.

Both the teacher and the Headmistress were told to report to the department of Education’s 68 Brickdam office today.

On Tuesday afternoon the police were called in after a female teacher was slapped by a male security guard. The incident reportedly stemmed from the throwing of a genip seed in the guard’s direction. The teacher told this newscast that the two of them would normally make jokes and she was surprised that it reached to this level. The guard was placed on $5000 dollars bail as the police investigation continues.
