Topping up Budget 2014

Screen Shot 2014-06-18 at 6.44.25 PMThe Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon revealed that the Minister of Finance Dr Ashni Singh has gone ahead and spent monies not approved in the Budget for the running of the Office of the President, which he said was severely affected by the Budget cuts.

Presidential Guards and Information Officers attached to Government Information Agency were among those who were delayed payments under the guise that the budget was cut, but staffers were being told that the money was available but that the politics has to be played out.

The Minister of Finance is expected to move to the National Assembly for approval of the monies that he spent but were not catered for in the budget, and Luncheon indicated this could be the approach until all the money is restored.

The Opposition parties voted against $37 billion in this year’s budget. The Opposition parties did not want to cut as much, but were forced to after the government insisted on not delinking items they were against from items they had no problem with.
