CARICOM Regional Culture Committee meets

Guyana’s Director of Culture Dr James Rose, and other officials of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport were among those listening in.

Over the past decade or so, the Committee has helped to fashion key policies affecting artistes and cultural workers. According to Hillary Brown, Programme Manager for Cultural and Community Development at CARICOM, the Committee has worked at correcting anomalies in the free movement of artistes.
The Deputy Secretary General of CARICOM Manorma Soeknandan said the Regional Cultural Committee continues to play an important role in advancing cultural development in the region. She said CARICOM Heads of Government see the cultural and creative industries as being important in job creation and increasing wealth in the region.

This meeting of the Regional Cultural Committee will focus on the preparations for CARIFESTA XII, scheduled for August, 2015 in Haiti; the Regional Development Strategy for the Cultural Industries in CARICOM; the CARICOM Song Competition; Reparation; Culture and Edutainment in Public Education, among other areas.
