GWI road project affects road users

Screen Shot 2014-06-13 at 6.53.36 PMFor several months road users have complained about the ongoing Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) sewage upgrade project causing many streets around the city to be temporary inaccessible.

While the sewage system is being upgraded there are individuals who are concerned about the state and length of time the roads are left in before they are repaired after the pipes would have been laid.

GWI’s Sanitation Improvement Programme Manager, Orin Browne says there is still some amount of work that remains to be complete and the contractors are in the process of recapping the roads.

The GWI Official says there is a September deadline for the entire project to be completed.

Browne strongly believes despite the contractors having problems sourcing materials and delays because of the current weather pattern, he still feels the deadline will be met.

The GWI Sanitation Improvement Programme Manager has issued a warning that with the new sewage system the company will be enforcing penalties to those found guilty of abusing the system. In the past GWI has reported that persons were flushing garbage, plastic and condoms though their toilets into the system.
