Efforts underway to ensure correct labelling of food products
Over the next four days participants would be exposed to best practices when it comes to dealing with the issue of food nutritional labeling and water testing.
The workshop is being done by the Government Analyst- Food and Drug Department along with the Pan- American Health Organization (PAHO).
Head of the Food and Drugs Department, Marlan Cole told participants that they must be in a position to bridge the gap between manufactures and consumers when it comes to food nutritional labeling.
Cole says he hopes at the end of the sessions that participants would have a better understanding of the many products on the local market and its true value for consumption.
The new PAHO Representative for the Guyana Country says on the issue of water testing his organisation decided to donate six testing kits to the Government Analyst- Food and Drug Department.
40 participants over the next few days will be trained in the areas of principles of nutrition, food labeling regulation and international labeling mandates.
