Workers and Union unhappy at new regulations
The Guyana Public service union is peeved with the Public Service minister Jennifer Westford for not allowing them to be part of a meeting with the ministry and some public servants. It has to do with the implementation of a new biometric clock system, which was implemented by the ministry of agriculture.
The workers objected and informed their union who then wrote to the ministry informing them that the issue should be put on hold until the ministry engages the union.
This did not find favour with the ministry who told the workers that they would not be allowed in the compound and would be considered absent.
However according to the union the minister then intervened and instructed that the workers meet with her today.
The union sees this move as political interference.
The union said that many of the staff are appointed by the public service commission and have certain constitutional rights. English said he considers the action of the ministry intimidating.
