footballChristopher Mathias was still in the game despite the breakaway faction of GFF executives giving him a red card. The president began firing back at those who moved the motion to give him marching orders. This was after the group convened on Saturday with the purpose of passing a no confidence motion against Mathias and Vice President Administration Keith O’Jeer

The Group of Executives has asked Mathias to vacate the GFF’s office and hand over all keys and documents. That letter was signed by Vice President Ivan Persaud who incidentally was selected by the group as its new Leader.

Since the action of Saturday 3 executives including a Vice President of the Georgetown Football association  have publicly distanced themselves from the actions of the group

Cricket fans in Guyana have once again been left high and dry and it’s through no fault of their own. The WICB asked President Ramotar not to sign into law the recently passed Cricket Administration bill, but the President was unable to give the WICB such an undertaking so the WICB pulled the 3rd test against New Zealand from Guyana. The WICB is concerned that the bill which had the support of the APNU and the PPP/C is interfering with the independence of the cricketing body. The WICB says this is an undesirable situation and inconsistent with the rules of the International Cricket Council. The Guyana Government responded with its own statement which accused the WICB of arrogance and attempting to meddle in Guyana’s affairs.

This latest fallout will have serious repercussions for the game here since all approved WI cricket will effectively be banned in Guyana. This includes All test, one day internationals and 20/20 which includes the Limacol Premier League tournament.  Three matches were scheduled for Guyana in the fixtures released by the LCPL today. The WICB is also expected to announce the alternative venue for the Guyana test Players taking part in any unsanctioned games will also come under discipline by the WICB.

And Tiger Bay has won the right to represent Guyana in the Regional Finals of the Guinness greatest of the streets football competition after defeating Melanie A at thirst park last evening
