Commission of Inquiry into NA Prison violence

Screen shot 2014-06-02 at 9.04.04 PMHome Affairs Minister Clement Rohee, today disclosed that a commission of inquiry will be established to investigate the violent attack at the New Amsterdam Prison, which occurred two Fridays ago.

That attack left four prisoners nursing chop wounds and acid burns they allegedly sustained at the hands of fellow prisoners.

The prisoners: Abdussalam Azimullah, Kwame Bhagwandin, Davendra Harricharran and Clarence Williams said prison officials could have prevented the attack, had they listened to their complaints.

It is alleged that a convicted prisoner overpowered a Prison Officer and relieved him of his keys. The man according to reports went on to free several prisoners, who together with him unleased the attack on the four prisoners.
