Hotel Tower to reopen
Even as the Towel Hotel plans to reopen its doors on Monday the president of the Clerical and Commercial Workers union remains optimistic that fortunes of the hotel will turnaround. The union and its members called off the industrial action following a meeting with the managing director of the hotel Salim Azeez.
Azeez gave the union two options. One for the workers to receive their severance including backdated salary, leave passage, 5% service charge and leave allowances.
On Thursday the union met with the managing director of the company Salim Azeez and he has promised to pay off the workers.
The Tower Hotel is up for sale owing to what the hotel management says was a decline in business.
That issue was compounded with the disconnection of the electricity supply to the building and the non-payment of staff.
Then the workers were given a letter saying that the Hotel will lay them off for 6 weeks; this prompted protest action and a demand for their monies.
Clarke said he was given all assurances that the workers would be paid before Monday and power supply restored.
