20100613rugbyGuyana’s rugby players are hard at training in preparation for their international rugby board fifteens clash with Trinidad at Guyana’s providence stadium. Captain Ryan Gonsalves said they are getting close to the level they want.

Gonsalves also said some of the current training is to correct some of the weaknesses that were exposed in their game against Barbados earlier this month.

And Coach of Guyana’s Amazon warriors in the Limacol Caribbean Premier League 20/20 tournament Roger Harper gives the Amazon warriors as a good a chance this year as they did last year when they reached the finals.

Harper who was speaking to us recently said that the blend of the squad will help the local players who are in the squad and he is confident that the training regime will prepare them come july 30. Guyana lost to the Jamaica Tallawahs in Last year’s final.

And Former Guyana and West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan may have called time on his Test career even though he remains active on the county cricket scene in England playing for Leicetsershire . Sarwan was asked today in an interview with Jack wilson if he believes that he will play again for the West Indies. But the  33 yr old right hander who has scored 5842 runs in 87 tests at an average of 40 says that he  believes it will be hard to get back into the team with the kind of players the WI have now. But Sarwan left the door open saying that he’ll just keep on scoring runs.

Eight teams will battle it out at D’aguiars park when the Guinness Nationwide segment gets cracking tomorrow. Georgetown has 4 teams Queen Street Tiger Bay, Holmes Street Tiger Bay, Albouystown B, Stevedore Housing Scheme. Linden will field 3 teams Eagles, Retrieve Unknown, Wismar Housing Scheme. East Coast will have Melanie A. The competition will be played on a round robin/knock out basis. The 8 teams will be divided in two groups of 4 and each team will play each other once, the winner and runner up will advance to the semi-finals. The winner of the competition will be representing Guyana at the Caribbean championship slated for 5th June 2014 in Trinidad.
