Body in Eccles is Rawle Newton aka “Satan Ambassador”
The Police this afternoon confirmed that the man whose body was found with a suspected gunshot wound at Eccles Access Road, EBD, on May 23, 2014, has been identified as Rawle Newton called “Satan Ambassador”, 27 years, of Agricola, EBD, and Princes Street, Georgetown. The Police say that investigations are in progress.
Newton had always protested his innocence after he was arrested for a brutal murder and robbery in Bartica. He was set free when the Police could not muster witnesses for the murder trial. But was targeted to be re-arrested and a warrant was issued for him. The Police later claimed that he was implicated in two other robberies one on the West Demerara and the other in South Georgetown. The police claimed that there was surveillance video in the West Demerara case but no video ever surfaced.
Newton made repeated complaints of what he called “police harassment” and insisted that the police were out to get him. He was attempting to retrieve his property from the Police Criminal Investigations Department when he was gunned down. CID seized a car, phones and some money from the man when he was arrested for the murder, never returned the property when he was in jail and then issued wanted bulletins for him Informed sources believe that the Police may have shot him which amounts to an extra-judicial killing however it will be the police who will investigate the same killing. Guyana does not have an independent investigative arm.
