The Government scored an important victory ion its clash with the Guyana Cricket board when the National Assembly passed the cricket Administration Bill. The AFC was the only party not to support the bill. One of the things the bill seeks to achieve is to make the GCB a legal entity which means it can be sued in a court of law. It means too that the GCB can also own property.

The bill also seeks to have the GCB submit its audited financial statements to the National assembly and the National Sports Commission. Now that’s where things will become tricky since some persons within the GCB are questioning the legality of the NSC


Over 5o pedal pushers were expected to face the starter when the National Sports Commission 3 stage cycle gets cracking on Saturday. The first stage started this morning at Corriverton and finished at New Amsterdam., while the second pedalled off from Rosignol and finished at Carifesta Avenue. The cyclists will have Saturday to rest and then the final stage starts from Kara Kara on the Linden Soesdyke highway and ends at Homestretch Avenue in the city.


Well good sense prevailed last evening at the Cliff Anderson sports Hall as the National Basketballs were allowed to use the facility after being threatened with a lockout. The players however had to wait some 450 minutes before the keys to the facility were provided. GABF President Nigel Hinds had appealed to the Minister of Culture youth and Sport to intervene after it was reported that the Director of Sport Neil Kumar was planning to refuse the Federation entry to the National facility.

The GABF players are preparing for the CBC championships next month in the BVI. And this weekend the action returns to Linden in the inter Association Championships. Linden will play Georgetown in both male and female action at the Mackenzie sports club ground

Arm wrestling

And the Arm wrestling competition hosted by the 704 sports bar has moved to the next stage which will take place at the bar this Saturday where Four persons have moved to the next round the heats for the over 200lbs will continue on Saturday and the ONLY category that is currently closed for entry is the males under 200lbs. The only catergories still open to entries are for male contestants over 200lbs and females, Registration in these categories will continue until 12pm on Saturday, May 17th.
