No charge yet in 15-year old shooting
Two weeks after a senior Policeman shot 15 year old Alex Griffith in the mouth, the lawmen are still to institute charges against the policeman who was positively identified during an identification an parade at Brickdam last week. That shooting stemmed from the reported robbery of the sister of the policeman in East La penitence.
Today Griffith’s attorney Dexter Todd visited the office of professional responsibility OPR to get an update on the investigation.
He said he was assured that the investigation will be completed and the file sent to the police complaints authority for recommendations before the end of the week. The attorney at law wants a thorough investigation to be conducted.
Todd who served in the Guyana Police Force for several years said occurrences of this nature are damaging to the image of the force.
He said compensation is off the table.
Upon completion of the investigation the file will be sent to the police complaints authority to be reviewed by Head of the authority justice Cecil Kennard. Kennard will make his recommendation and send the file to the DPP. The DPP can agree with Kennard or offer her own theory in the case.
Civic groups and concerned citizens have staged a picketing exercise outside of the police headquarters hoping that the police would speedily institute charges against of the officer.
