$100 Million Worth of Cocaine in Custard Powder
A Guyanese Visitor to the US, 35 year old Godfrey Cassius is in custody in New York. Customs at JFK intercepted his suitcase which allegedly had eight kilos (over 17 pounds) of cocaine packaged as “Custard Powder”. The cocaine has a street value of over 100 Million Guyana dollars or 500,000 USD
The Guyanese claimed he was offered $5000 USD (One Million Guyana dollars) to convey the suitcase with the custard powder not knowing it contained drugs. He was arrested on April 22 after he arrived on a Travelspan flight from Georgetown.
Cassius could face more than ten years in jail if found guilty, then be deported and be banned from the US forever.
Four years ago almost to the month another man brought the same amount of cocaine packaged in the same manner on a direct flight from Georgetown.
