AFC says after midnight April 30 any Budget Spending would be illegal
AFC Leader Khemraj Ramjattan said that if the Appropriations Bill, or the Amended budget estimates is not assented to by midnight tonight it means no money for the Government to spend. Ramjattan was speaking on the issue at his Party’s weekly press conference That bill was brought before the National assembly on April 16 and was passed unanimously. The clerk of the national assembly was then expected to forward the bill to the President for his assent
The combined opposition had voted against some 37 billion in expenditure forcing the finance Minister to amend his estimates. Dr Luncheon at his press conference last Wednesday had reported that the Appropriations bill had not reached the desk of President Ramotar. The President meanwhile is away in Mexico on attending the 3rd Caricom Mexico Summit.
