East Coast Man Killed in accident
The man’s reputed wife Philomena Himchand and mother of his three children said Wayne Gitten left home just after 9 in search of a job to take care of family. She said moments later she received a phone call informing her that he was injured in an accident at Clay Brick Road Sparendaam. When she got there she found him dead.
Wayne Gittens, 29, worked in the gold mines as a labourer, and from time to time he would be involved in horse racing as a jockey.
Himchand said picking up the pieces would be difficult since Gittens was the sole breadwinner for the family. The woman recently gave birth to the couple’s third child.
Eyewitnesses are reporting that after the vehicle hit Gittens his bone was protruding from his hand. They said that the driver stopped and was trying to render assistance to the man but ran away from the scene only to collapse a short distance away. The driver is currently in police custody as the as the investigations continue.
