Two persons are in custody following the murder of a waitress last night on the East Coast

Screen Shot 2014-04-24 at 7.55.12 PMTwo persons are now in custody assisting the police with their investigations following the murder of a waitress last night at Chateua Morgot on the east coast of Demerara.

The woman was shot to the head inside the Country Club restaurant and bar just after 10pm on Wednesday. Police sources told this newscast that robbery was not the motive since the shooter did not take anything away from the bar.

The dead woman has been identified as Selima of Bath Settlement on the West coast of Berbice.

Eyewitnesses told this newscast that the shooting stemmed from an argument between the woman and a group of patrons.

Word on the street is that the suspect rode up on a motorcycle barged into the bar and shot the woman to the head and then rode away.

Roy Samaroo owns the building and he told reporters that the bottom flat was rented to a businessman. He said he never witnessed the shooting but spoke of what he heard of the shooting.

According to Samaroo the woman worked for over a year at the bar without being paid. He said she was becoming frustrated over that and other issues over her property.

Samaroo said the woman was very committed to her job. The owner of the shop and another suspect were taken into police custody.
