Controversial town clerk Carol Sooba said minister granted her approval to charge vendors
Town Clerk acting Carol Sooba is saying she is getting the backing of the Central Government and it was the minister who gave her the approval to charge persons for vending on the seawall on Easter Monday.
However, Gecom Commissioner Vincent Alexander who is acquainted with the Local Government Laws observed that the Town Clerk works at the direction of the City Council and not the Minister. Alexander said the Town Clerk is not similar to a Regional Executive Officer in performance of her duties. She acts in accordance with the resolutions of the council.
Despite the non approval of the Georgetown city council town clerk Carol Sooba moved to levy fees for persons using the seawalls for kite flying and picnicking.
It should be the City Treasurer who should be the persons collecting monies on behalf of the council but the Acting Town Clerk has also arrogated this responsibility to herself as she continues to defy the City Council.
The same Central Government from which Sooba purports to derive power, has the power to call local government elections but has failed to do so for over two decades.
