Five charged with murder of East Coast businessman
When the matter was called before Magistrate Ann McLennan the men were not required to plea to the indictable charge.
Those charged are Deonaught Ketwaroo, Anthony Thomas, Michael Lewis, Adony James and Sheldon Chase.
On the 5th of April gunmen snatched the businessman from his Foulis East Coast Demerara business place. The men placed the businessman into the trunk of his vehicle and sped away from the scene. The kidnappers then made contact with his family demanding a ransom of 25 million dollars for his safe release.
Some four days later Persaud’s body was found in the Le Repentir Cemetery with a gunshot wound to the head.
City council worker Jarnarine Parbu said he was about to lay foundation for a new burial space when he saw the lifeless body under a tree. Persaud was engaged in the business of buying and selling used and crashed vehicle parts. He was operating the business for several years.
The men will return to court on the 21st May before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry.
