Top Story: Culture,Youth & Sport Ministry allocations come under intense scrutiny

Apnu parlimentThe Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport has been allocated another $100 million to run a Sports and Arts Development Fund.  The Fund was never advertised before so persons can know of its availability and how they can access the Funds, but Minister Frank Anthony has indicated that could soon change after being pressed by Opposition Member of Parliament Christopher Jones.

Parliamentarian Carl Greenidge said that since the Fund is administered by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, it is wrongly structured, and he repeated a call made last year for the Fund to be regularized.

This year, the Minister said that the Fund will be used to host several events and competitions. He said that the Fund is audited when the Ministry of Culture is audited. The Minister also indicated that there is a policy document existing regarding how the Fund is used.
