37 year old busted with cocaine in pastries
37 year old Nicholas Harinandan of Canje Berbice has been charged with trafficking in cocaine. He appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court today to face the charge. The cocaine, amounting to over 15 pounds was stashed away in
mittai, cheese-roll and pine tarts.
Harinandadn was busted after he attempted to take out the drugs on a Caribbean Airlines flight destined for the United States on Sunday. He had checked in the two suitcases which were inspected by members of the Customs Antu-Narcotics Unit.
Upon arrival at the airport yesterday the defendant checked in with two suitcases which was thoroughly searched by CANU ranks.
The defendant who is the holder of a US visitors Visa was later escorted to CANU headquarters when another search was conducted and then liquid cocaine in a pair of footwear. Harinandan will return to court on April 14. This latest drug bust is the first for April. Eleven drug mules have been arrested and charged for attempting to smuggle cocaine through CJIA so far this year.
