Guyana tries to ensure port Security compliance
Guyana is in a race to ensure that its port security credentials are in order for renewal and the Maritime Administration which is tasked with ensuring compliance has arranged a seminar to address all issues relating to port security. The US Coastguard is playing a lead role in the seminar which according to Lt Commander Jonathon Magnom comes at a time when most of Guyana’s Security requirements for certification of its ports are on the verge of expiry.
Director General of the Maritime Administration of Guyana Claudette Rogers said Guyana has been continually assessed since 2003-
Ms Rogers called on the shipping association to take port security seriously.
Minister of Transport and Harbours Robeson Benn also made it clear to the participants that what is expected of them is a clear understanding that they must strive to reach and maintain the desired standards.
As part of the training there are expected to be security drills and other similar exercises at port facilities..
