The US Coastguard is playing a lead role in the seminar which according to Lt Commander Jonathon Magnom comes at a time when most of Guyana’s Security requirements for certification of its ports are on the verge of expiry.

Director General of the Maritime Administration of Guyana Claudette Rogers said Guyana has been continually assessed since 2003-

Ms Rogers called on the shipping association to take port security seriously.

Minister of Transport and Harbours Robeson Benn also made it clear to the participants that what is expected of them is a clear understanding that they must strive to reach and maintain the desired standards.
