The four Boxers for Guyana boxing board of control Jamaican invasion boxing card signed their contracts on Tuesday.

The five card event would see wbc cabofe flyweight champion Dexter Marques slug it out with Rudolph Hedges in the main event.

and President of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control Peter Abdool said that they are happy to have Fly Jamaica as well as the other sponsors on board.

The Jamaican Invasion card is set for Saturday fifth April at the cliff Anderson sports hall

 

Cricket

The West Indies continued their impressive 20/20 form with their second victory in as many matches. The tourists beat Sri Lanka by 33 runs to install themselves as firm favourites to retain the title they won a year ago.

Dwayne Smith was again among the runs scoring 60. He received good support from Dwayne Bravo 43 and Captain Darren Sammy 30 in the WI total of 172/5. Narine with 4/24 and Bravo 3/ 29 then choked the Sri Lankans who limped to 139 all out.

And WI women beat South Africa by 52 runs in their first warm up in their World 20/20 Campaign.  Stefanie Taylor starred with the bat while Deandra Dottin and Anisa Mohammed took 2 wkts apiece. Their next warm up match is on Friday against the Australian women.

Table Tennis

Shemar Britton and Chelsea Edghill continue to turn in excellent performances in table tennis as they won the male and female titles in Trinidad and Tobago’s Silver Bowl Tournament.

Britton has been making waves on the table tennis scene and registered wins against very tough opponents.

Edghill was equally happy to do well

team Manager Idi Lewis said it was good preparation for their upcoming Caribbean Championships  in Cuba.

Football

The 2014 Scotiabank/Pepsi School Football Academy was launched over the weekend with DDL’s Larry Wills starting the tournament with the ceremonial kick.

The kickoff was followed by a female game and the tournament continued last Sunday with a tutorial High Campbellville Secondary clash.

The Competition continues in Georgetown on Sun 23rd March 2014 with one game when Lodge Secondary and Charlestown clash in a female encounter starting at 09:30 hrs at the Min of Ed Gd.

Action moves on to Berbice on Sat 22nd March 2014 when they will be having their March Pass of teams on the Scotts School Gd, New Amsterdam commencing at 10:00 hrs immediately followed by a male match between Berbice Educational Institute and Berbice High School.

And top local team Alpha United left this week for Jamaica to be a part of the Caribbean Club championship.  Alpha are in group 3 which also includes Defence Force of Trinidad home team Harbour View, and Notch  of Suriname. Alpha goes intoa action on Friday against Defence force.
