Fire destroys Prashad Nagar home
It was just before 7 in the morning on the 10th of March & the owner of the property Robert Power said an alarm was raised by his fiancée that smoke was coming from the top flat of his Deobrain Street Prashad Nagar home. He said he immediately tried to get his fiancée and two children out the house.
Power said he managed to save a few pieces of important items. The house was quickly gutted leaving millions in damage. The man told reporters that the house was insured and he is planning to rebuild. While the origin of the fire is still to be determined fire chief Marlon Gentle said that from their initial investigations it would appear that the fire was electrical in origin. Gentle then addressed the delay in the fire service’s response. While the next-door building was scorched, quick work by the Guyana fire service managed to contain the blaze to one building.
