Citizens Rise Against Rape
Displaying placards and banners depicting strong messages to speak out against this issue, men, women and children walked in silence from the Umana Yana, through the streets of Georgetown and concluded at the Promenade Gardens with a small ceremony.
The march entitled ‘Rising Against Rape’ was held as people all across the globe were observing International Women’s Day.
In an interview with this newscast, one of the founding members, Nicolette Roach said that this NGO will focus on the culture of rape.
Another founding member, Nicole Cole said that they intend to ensure citizens break the silence.
Other NGOs such as the Women Lawyers Association, Red Thread, Help and Shelter, the Guyana Human Rights Association, Society Against Sexual Orientation Discrimination (SASOD) along with Students and Lecturers from the University of Guyana also participated in the March.
