Wartsila marks 20 years of Powering up Guyana

watGuyana has had its fair share of power outages over the years but the improvement in the supply of electricity over that period is largely due to a Finnish company Wartsila. The company is now celebrating twenty years of providing electricity supply to the GPL

Wartsila first made its name in Guyana, when the Omai Gold Mine used its Generators to provide power to the large Gold Mine. After that the Guyana Government sought the company’s help to get the deficient electricity sector up and running. For Wartsila it was the beginning of a long relationship that resulted in the company operating and maintaining a power generation contract with GPL .

On Wednesday the company hosted a technical forum at the University of Guyana to highlight the work the company has been doing and its impact in Guyana. The power generation company has also been using measures to mitigate the environmental impact of power generation.

The company on Thursday held a Commemorative Dinner and Long Service Awards ceremony. Prime Minister Sam Hinds recalled that the company demonstrated its commitment through service

Wartsila operates in several countries around the world including a major Caribbean operation in the Dominican Republic. On Sunday the company wrapped up it week of activities with a commemorative 20 KM run..
