More problems at the bauxite company

boxThe president of the Guyana Bauxite and General Worker’s union has described the ongoing dispute between his union and the Bauxite of Guyana as chaotic.

He was speaking to this newscast at our capitol news office. He said workers are constantly being threatened and the rule of law is being violated.

The union made reference to the four years of ongoing dispute between the Bauxite Company of Guyana and the Guyana Bauxite and General Workers Union.

While the Russian Ambassador is urging the leader of the opposition David Granger to work towards passing the anti-money laundering bill the union is calling on the ambassador to ensure that this country’s laws are respected.

The union’s comments were in direct response to the fallout between the Russian owned company Bauxite Company of Guyana and the Guyana Bauxite & General Workers Union. Some 57 workers were reportedly dismissed for exercising their fundamental rights to strike, a senior manager of the company also allegedly threatened to bash the heads of workers with a spade.
