sports 20Ug created an upset last evening at Camp Ayanganna beating defending champions Caribs 26-14 in the GDF Anniversary Sevens rugby tournament to capture their first tournament. Ug coach Laurie Adonis paid tribute to his players and thanked GDF for giving them the opportunity to play in the tournament.

Deputy Chief of staff Colonel Khemraj Persaud who is the gdf club president said that adding rugby to the celebrations was good for the celebrations.

And the nations golfers will tee it up this Saturday at the Lusignan Golf Club in the Premier Heineken Open. This will be the first time Heineken will be sponsoring a major golf tournament in Guyana and several lucrative prizes are in store for the participants.

To Cycling President of the Guyana Cycling Federation Cheryl Thompson will be placing much emphasis on ensuring that cycling is free of drug use. She told Capitol news that a seminar will be held to educate cyclists and their coaches.

Following the successful staging of the Caribbean goodwill boxing tournament the countries involved met and decided that their focus should be on youth to take the sport further.

Boxers from Jamaica St Lucia and Trinidad travelled to Guyana last week for the card.

Three boxers will be representing Guyana at the South American Championships. Dennis Thomas and Eon Bancroft as well as Theresa London recently did Guyana proud at the Caribbean Goodwill championships
