Businessman killed and another was shot twice in two separate incident
There are reports that the America Street moneychanger was driving his Toyota Raum vehicle on his way to work when he was shot dead during a daring robbery in Lombard Street. The gunshots had persons in the area seeking cover in the normally heavily traffic congested area. The incident occurred just around 8 this morning.
Dead is Bridgelall Persaud of Eccles on the East Bank of Demerara.
Relatives are saying that the bandits took a bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash and made good their escape.
At the hospital relatives said the moneychanger was not deserving of such a dreadful death. His grandmother in law said she expects the police to go after the suspects.
The woman said Persaud was a loving man to his family.
And the police are investigating another shooting just before noon today in Church St where a businessman was shot twice by bandits just outside a GT&T office.
The man has been identified as Sunil Ramesh, 39 of 3rd street Grove east Bank Demarara. His wife told the media that from all indications the bandits traced them from the Bank.
According to the woman they went over to the telephone company GT&T to query a bill. She said her husband was parking his min-bus while she was standing in front looking on. She said a man came up and placed a gun to her neck and demanded that she handed over her bag.
The man braved his injuries and drove to the Woodlands hospital where he was admitted and said to be in a stable condition. This newscast understands that the suspects escaped on a CG motorcycle. The police are investigating the matter.
